A Day in the Woods practicing Bushcraft skills


I thought I'd share a short video that I made while out on a day camp in my local woodlands. In this video; Des and I set-up our tarps, drink lots of tea and cook up some fine food.


I hadn't planned on doing any whittling, but ended up carving a spoon from a lovely piece of seasoned Ash. Unfortunately I didn't get around to finishing it off as I left my crook knife at home, but it will be finished off in my shed or when I next venture out to the woods.


I'll keep this blog post nice and short because I do sometimes have a tendency to go off on one and waffle about every last detail. Let me know what you think of the video, it's not a skill set that comes easily to me, but I'm working to improve and may start to post a few more videos up here.

Hand’s up…who likes fish and chips? Yep me too! Recently I wondered if I could take one of the nation’s favourite takeaways and cook it over a camp fire. I also wondered if I could make it a little healthier but without losing that great taste. So here’s what I did: Ingredients: 1 x Potato  1 x fillet of fish (I used smoked haddock) A spoonful of butter or cooking oil A pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning Optional extra’s: A tin of mushy peas A dollop of tartare sauce Before cooking get your fire established and leave it to burn down to a reasonable bed of coals. Sometimes I like to keep the fire going and then drag some of the coals out to one side for cooking so that I can replenish the coals when the heat dies down. Carving a Kuksa

Have you ever wondered how easy it is to carve your own Kuksa? I certainly have and recently decided to give it a go. On this blog post, I’ll talk through the process that I followed, identify some of the challenges and share any lessons that I learnt along the way. 2020 - A year in review: Hi de Hi Campers, it's been a while!

Well it's been a year since I last posted on this blog, but, what can I say it's been a difficult year! Anyhow I think it's about time that I blow off the cobwebs on this blog and offer up a bit of an insight into what's been occurring. Regular readers of my blog will know that I'm not one for doing reviews. But I thought I'd make an exception by doing a blog on 2020 and offer up a review of the year. In a nutshell 2020 has been a car crash of cataclysmic proportions, a steaming turd, a fart that is so smelly that it makes you wretch.....the end.
